Horticulturist

Overview
The Horticulturist, under supervision of the Superintendent and Grounds Superintendent is responsible for, but not limited to, design, installation, and maintenance or ornamental landscaping throughout the golf course, clubhouse, community, and privately owned homes.

Functions

  • Designs flower beds and cultivates shrubs and flowers.
  • Trims and prunes trees, perennials, hedges and shrubbery.
  • Designs, installs and maintains low-pressure irrigation systems for landscaping.
  • Instructs and trains groundskeepers in routine maintenance or ornamental plantings.
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
  • Alerts the Grounds Superintendent to pest concerns.
  • Applies pesticides and fertilizers to ornamental plantings.
  • Advises the Grounds Superintendent of the need for tree and perennial trimming services.
  • Maintains the common turf grass areas within the community.
  • Responsible for snow removal program on the community streets, sidewalks, and driveways of contracted homes.
  • Opens the maintenance shop and runs operations in the absence of the Superintendent and Grounds Superintendent.

Employment standards and Environment

  • Associate degree or extensive experience in horticulture or a closely related field.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habits and proper cultivation of a wide selection of flowering bulbs, annuals, biennials and perennial plant materials, including both herbaceous and woody plants.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of use of various fertilizers, soil conditioners and pest control methods and materials.
  • May require state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Presents a professional image at all times.
  • Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Experience in golf course maintenance and the game of golf a plus.

Greens Keepers

Overview
The Greens Keepers, under supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent, performs work involving, but not limited to, the use of small and large landscape equipment and hand tools used to maintain a beautiful and sustainable golf course and landscapes.

Functions

  • Maintain and mow all types of turf and plant areas.
  • Operates all types of equipment; walk mowers, blowers, trimmers, aerifiers, etc.
  • Rakes and blows leaves, walkways, parking lots, cart storage areas, driveways, etc.
  • Performs basic labor on the golf course and landscapes.
  • Ensures that the equipment cooling system is working at all times; refills fuel and oil daily; and reports equipment problems or failures to Equipment Manager immediately.
  • Cleans any/all equipment used on the golf course grounds.
  • Provides basic preventive maintenance on equipment as directed by the Equipment Manager or Assistant Superintendent, and returns equipment to the designated location at the maintenance facility.
  • Cooperate with, and respect fellow employees.

  • Knowledge of safe, efficient mechanical operation of motorized equipment.
  • Knowledge of golf course, landscape, lawn care operations.

Player Services and Starter/Marshall

Overview
To assist in the day-to-day operations of the golf course.
Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club is looking for individuals with exceptional customer service skills to fill seasonal part time and full time positions.  
Compensation is $9.30 plus tips and golf privileges.

Duties include:

  • Customer service
  • Daily operations
  • Cleaning carts
  • Picking range balls
  • Starting groups
  • Ensuring the pace of play policy, etc.
Employment standards
  • Interest in the game of golf preferred (must be at least 16 years old).
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. to waist height.
  • Presents a professional image at all times.
  • Maintain a positive interaction with guests and staff

Golf Irrigation Specialist

Overview
The Irrigation Specialist, under the supervision of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, is responsible for, but not limited to, the operation and maintenance of the golf course and community irrigation systems. The Irrigation Specialist is required to report any irregularities in course turf quality and plant quality to the superintendent or assistant superintendent.

Functions

  • Hand waters greens and tees in dry areas needing additional water.
  • Operates irrigation heads in fairways and rough in dry areas needing additional water.
  • Operates irrigation sprinklers in community areas needing additional water
  • Performs irrigation checks on a regular basis
  • Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
  • Completes requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
  • Grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds greens, tees and fairways.
  • Operates dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
  • Occasionally supervises a small labor force for special projects, and performs other duties as directed by supervisor.
Employment standards
  • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various types of pumps and pumping systems.
  • Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science and the rules of golf.
  • Knowledge of tools, methods and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work.
  • Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
  • Presents a professional image at all times.
  • Ability to lift at least 50lbs
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Horticulture Assistant

Overview

The Horticulture Assistant, under the supervision of the Horticulturist, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent is responsible for, but not limited to installation and maintenance of ornamental landscaping throughout the golf course, clubhouse, community, and privately owned homes.

Functions

  • Assists in planting and maintaining annual / perennial flower beds and shrubbery.
  • Water flower beds, by hand and by use of irrigation controllers, as needed.
  • Seasonally trim, prune and shear shrubs, grasses and perennial flowers.
  • Install / repair low-pressure irrigation systems for landscaping.
  • Use the following equipment on a regular basis: shovels, rakes, blowers, hand pruners, hand shovels, shears, carts, PPE
  • Ability to follow direction and have an attention to detail.
  • Applies pesticides and fertilizers to ornamental plantings.
  • Alerts the Horticulturist and Grounds Superintendent to pest concerns.
  • Ability to answer basic homeowners’ questions and concerns with their landscape.
  • Maintains the common turf grass areas within the community.

Golf Shop Sales Assistant

Overview
Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Club is looking for an enthusiastic individual with exceptional customer service skills to assist with the day to day activities within the golf pro shop.   
This is a full time seasonal position at $9.30 per hour.

Duties include:

  • Assists customers/players in the sale of merchandise, schedule tee times, cart rentals, etc.
  • Maintains pro shop in an orderly fashion in regard to merchandise.  Keeps shelves stocked and neat.
  • Responsible for cash register receipt accuracy.
  • Responsible to implement and adhere to company goals, policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Assist the head Golf Professional in conducting a well-organized golf shop.

  • Individuals must be able to work a variety of shifts (opening/closing, etc.)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Overview

The irrigation specialist, under the supervision of the golf course superintendent or landscape manager, is responsible for, but not limited to, the operation and maintenance of the golf course, clubhouse, and residential irrigation system(s). The irrigation specialist is required to report any irregularities in course turf quality to the superintendent or landscape manager.

Functions

  • Operates irrigation heads in areas needing additional water.
  • Responsible for irrigation repairs and turning on and off of the water for homeowners in the community.
  • Repairs the irrigation system, pipes and irrigation heads as needed.
  • Completes requests for irrigation and course parts and supplies.
  • Grades and prepares soil base; lays sod; and seeds areas as needed.
  • Operates dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
